It's All Energy

It's as simple as that. It's all energy. Everything known to us is comprised of energy. Science has shown that the only difference between us and a rock is the frequency of our molecules. Medical science has shown that most cells in our body are completely replaced every 7 to 10 years, depending on the tissue. (Note: Some cells are never replaced. Such as the neurons in the cerebral cortex and the pineal gland. When you loose cerebral neurons, they're gone for good. However, the pineal gland has the original cells you were born with and has been shown to be gaining cells. The pineal is calcifying...crystallizing. It is said by some that this is a part of the energetic shift from a carbon based physiology to a crystalline based physiology.) Now, since we and our cells are energy and our cells are regularly replaced, what if we could energetically intercede in that cell replacement? What if we could reprogram dis-eased cells making them healthy cells? Well, we can. That is, in part, what subtle energy medicine is all about. Crystology
Crystology is the study of crystals. It is the study of their metaphysical aspects and healing properties. This healing may take place within people, animals, living spaces or on land. Crystals can be used to counter some of the effects of our environment such as radiation, electro-magnetic interference, stress or any other undesirable energy. There is even a theory that if you place a quartz laser point on your fuel line, pointing toward the engine, it will increase your gas mileage. A student of crystology also learns to use combinations of crystals in grids to create specific energy fields. Earthing
Earthing is a recent label applied to something that has probably been known to mankind longer than anything else. In simple terms, it is the act of being in physical contact with the Earth. As simple as that sounds, it is probably one of the most profound things we can do in the interest of our well-being.
Healing Touch
Healing Touch is a modality that we have no direct experience with, other than to have had Healing Touch sessions and from conversations with Healing Touch practitioners. The reason Healing Touch is included here is because it warrants, if nothing else, investigation by any healing arts practitioner that would like to see their modality legitimized. More than any other modality, Healing Touch has been accepted by the medical community. This is for three basic reasons. It's not that Healing Touch is that much better than many of the other modalities. After all, as mentioned above...it's all energy. What sets Healing Touch apart is at it's very core. It was developed by a RN from Lakewood, CO. named Jane Mentgen. As a registered nurse, Ms Mentgen had an intimate understanding of the language, documentation and level of training needed in order to be accepted by her peers. There are no short cuts in Healing Touch training. There is extensive documentation throughout the training process and then as a practitioner, of patient history. Then, continuing education credits are required to maintain certification. All in all, Healing Touch sets the bench mark for the direction all complementary modality practitioners need to strive for if they are wanting to see their practice become more integrated with allopathic care. It's not that we all need to learn Healing Touch. However, there is a lot we can learn from the way it is structured.

Herbalism
The ancient ways of the herbalist are making a humble come back. For thousands of years certain individuals have been able to connect with plants in such a way that the plants share with them their healing properties. Fortunately, these traditions have been kept alive and passed along to the willing student. This is especially remarkable considering the times in history when the punishment for such a practice was quite severe...even a death sentence. Those of us studying herbalism today owe those before us a debt of gratitude for their dedication and persistence in the face of persecution.
There is a Cherokee story telling how the beings of nature gathered to discuss the disrespect being shown toward them by humans. The animals spoke most strongly against the thoughtless humans as their kind had been slaughtered in disrespectful ways and with no gratitude being expressed for the sacrifice being made by the animals. The animals solution was basically an eye for an eye...to kill the humans. The plants, however, were more compassionate. They saw the people as simply being ignorant of the damage caused by their ways. They did not want to see the humans killed for their ignorance. In their compassionate wisdom, the beings of nature came to a compromise. They decided that a myriad of diseases would be experienced by the people. However, those that connected with nature...the ones that quieted their minds enough to listen, would find a treatment for all disease within the plants around them. These people were the first herbalist.
One of the first things learned when studying medicinal plants is the definition of a weed. It seems that virtually all those plants that are clumped into the all-encompassing category of weeds turn out to be quite beneficial to us in the hands of a knowledgeable herbalist. Take stinging nettle for instance. Anyone that has accidentally encountered nettle during a nature outing has probably cursed it and wondered why in the world such a "weed" exists...other than to torture anyone unfortunate enough to touch it. Yet nettle (Urtica dioica), is probably one of the most versatile and useful of all medicinal plants. Nettle can be used to treat a wide variety of ailments including, but not limited to asthma, cuts and wounds, nose bleeds, hemorrhoids, burns, heavy menstrual flow, menopause, allergies, hay fever, diarrhea, excess gas, ulcerations, elevated blood sugar, thyroid, goiter, prostate disorders, detoxification, blood circulation, anemia, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, eczema, abscesses, herpes, hair growth, bladder infections and it encourages the production of breast milk...just to name a few. So, what is a weed? It is a plant that grows where it is not wanted. The most beautiful rose is a weed if it grows in the middle of your lawn where you do not want it.
A treatment for all our ailments can truly be found in nature. One simply needs to seek it out. While books are handy, it is truly best to find a qualified teacher. The need of a teacher cannot be stressed enough for one wanting to work with herbs, at least to get you started. Set your intentions and you will meet your teacher. As the saying goes, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
There is much to know about how to get the most from the healing properties of a plant...how and when to harvest, how and when to process the herb and appropriate dosage. Also, it is important to know when not to take an herb or parts of an herb. For instance, poke root is a powerful antibiotic. Yet the berries (actually the seeds) of the plant are poisonous. Some physical conditions may even determine that certain herbs should be avoided...period. A good example is that there are quite a few herbs that should not be taken by pregnant or lactating women.
Another approach to herbalism is through the spirit of the plant. This is a Shamanic approach to herbalism. When working with plants in this way, one develops a working relationship with a few key plants. The spirit of these plants can then be called upon as an ally for the sake of healing. The scientific and medical communities are also embracing the healing properties of plants and their traditional uses by the indigenous peoples of the world. A good example is a pharmacist from Thomasville, NC named Amy Greeson. Amy started a foundation called Healing Seekers. She uses her vacation time and any other time she can scrape together to trek into some of the most remote places of the world to study and document the indigenous medicinal plants as well as, the people that use them and their culture. Manifestation
There is much said and written about the manifestation process. The books and CDs by Esther and Jerry Hicks on the teachings of Abraham are an excellent example of what is available. To learn more about them, visit abraham-hicks.com. Another good example is the work of Julia Griffin. Julia's newsletters are always uplifting and informative. You can learn more about her at her work at onetrueself.com. The first thing that drew me to Julia's work is that she has wolves that she meditates with...gotta love that.
Bottom-line is that, like everything else, manifestation involves energy. You get back a reflection of what you put out...which can be tricky. As Einstein said, "Match the frequency...get that reality." A good way to keep track of what you're putting out there energetically is to get in the habit of silently following your words and thoughts with the statement, "And so it is." For example, if you get up in the morning and say to yourself, "Ugh, work is going to be horrible today!" Follow your thought with, "And so it is." You may as well because we love to prove ourselves right. If you think work is going to be horrible, it will be. You'll make sure it is...self-fulfilling prophecy. However, if you turn that around and instead say, "There may be the potential for some challenges at work today, but I know that whatever comes my way I will handle it with a grace and ease." And so it is.
We tend to give energy to, and manifest, those things we focus on. That means the things we are against as well. For instance, Mother Theresa said she would not take part in a protest against war (as it gives energy to war by it's focus against it). However, she would demonstrate for peace. And so it is.

Meditation is at the foundation of all healing modalities. It even plays a huge part in tuning into the esoteric mysteries of sacred geometry. The drawing of sacred geometric forms in itself brings about a form of meditation. This state of consciousness inspires an even deeper understanding of the energies at work within the designs. One connects with the Oneness of All That Is. In turn, when one meditates in spaces anchored by the proportions found in sacred geometry, a connection with Spirit takes place.
It is said that meditation is very much like prayer. The difference is seen in that with prayer, we are talking to Creator...while meditating, we are listening to Creator. Within that very profound difference is the power of meditation. When we allow ourselves to be present, to be mindful, we hear the messages Spirit has for us in that moment. We are able to release our ego and become One with all that is. We find ourselves flowing with the current of our lives as opposed to fighting to make our way upstream.
There are many books, many sources of information on how to meditate. One of the most gifted teachers of meditation and mindfulness is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk named Thich Nhat Hanh (pronounced Tik N'yat Hawn. At least that is as close as we can get in English). Next to the Dali Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh is the most prolific author of Buddhist based material. One of his most helpful books for meditation beginners is The Miracle of Mindfulness. It is no exaggeration to say that this humble book has changed lives. It is that profound.

For those that struggle with meditation, a great way to ease into the practice is a simple, yet powerful meditation Thich Nhat Hanh offers in The Miracle of Mindfulness. It is called a walking meditation. To do it, you simply count the number of steps you take as you inhale. You then match that with the number of steps you take as you exhale. This is done while breathing comfortably, except for the fact that you may have to practice matching your inhalation with your exhalation. We typically are out of balance in our breathing until we become mindful. With just a little practice, it becomes second nature. A walking meditation is most effective surrounded by nature and in silence. However, speaking from experience, it works on construction sites too. For those times that walking is not an option, counting seconds as we breathe works as well. The key is mindful breathing. All meditations start with mindful breathing.
A method of meditation that is quite powerful is a guided meditation. This can be done with a guide in person or by listening to one of the many available CD's. You might also use soothing background music to enhance your meditation experience. Mantras are another powerful way to meditate. With mantras, you use the sound of your own voice to tune your physical and energetic bodies as you connect with your spiritual self as well. In fact, mantras are somewhat of a crossover between meditation and sound vibrational healing. Deva Premal and Miten produce a number of CDs using mantras. Their work is quite powerful. Another technique that is said to be very effective and very profound is Transcendental Meditation or TM. While we cannot speak of it from experience, it has crossed our path often enough, and in synchronistic ways, that studying the practice is on our "to do" list. Naturopathy
Here is an explanation offered by our favorite Naturopath, Jill Clarey; The Oxford Dictionary says: a system of alternative medicine based on the theory that diseases can be successfully treated or prevented without the use of drugs, by techniques such as control of diet, exercise, and massage.
But all Naturopaths are different. I was trained as a Classical Naturopath. Right around that time I was ending school a new type of Naturopath started to emerge. The medical field decided that Naturpaths needed to be trained to do surgery and to prescribe medications. There are a handful (6?) schools now that exist that are working on this type of training. This will soon be the only legal way to practice once all 50 states are licensed. I am battling this yearly in the senate.
Classically trained means, you learn the history of nutrition and the shift in the nutrition in our foods that happens due to over-use of the land without giving back to it properly as well as man made chemicals. It teaches several types of modalities, physiology and how all systems relate to one another instead of every system being separate. I learned how to feed each system and the body as a whole. I look at the iris of the eye to determine imbalances, I look at nails, urine and saliva, blood, the tongue, the color of the skin and all of it's lines. Everything is a clue. I look at a very thorough list of symptoms and diet and lifestyle of everyone. Once you get all that down on paper, a pattern emerges. Typically two or three systems start to show up over and over again. I tweak the diet and lifestyle issues for the systems that need to be fed. I teach how to eat and feed each of those areas as well. Supplements are used to bring balance to damaged, weakened, stressed and depleted areas. These are foods as well, mostly. For example herbs are plants, leaves, roots, stems...like a medicinal tossed salad. I have been in the field of helping people learn to be healthy since 1991 - but only graduated as a Doctor of Naturopathy in 2002. I am a second generation Classically trained Naturopath. Purpose and Vision Navigation
Purpose and Vision Navigation is a dynamic type of life coaching created by Bill Johnson at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Though not often considered as a healing or energy modality, PVN provides a concise method of pin-pointing what makes us tick. An amazing amount of healing takes place when we discover those things in life that ignite our passion as well as those that drain our energy. As life issues often surface during a one on one energy session, it is very helpful to have tools in place to help process those issues in a constructive, healing way.
We have also found that Purpose and Vision Navigation is very helpful as we go through the transitions in life, such as reaching retirement age or the empty nest syndrom. It can be very healing to retire to something as you retire from something.
On a larger scale, society as a whole is going through a shift in consciousness. People are leaving the corporate world in droves in favor of finding more meaning in life. Many others are stuck in a daily grind, knowing there must be something better out there. However, they stick it out in order to pay their monthly bills and because they have no idea of how to find that something better out there. In truth, it may not be that it's truly something better, it's just that it's something that is more in alignment with who they are. When we live our life in alignment with who we are, healing takes place on a very deep level.

Classically trained means, you learn the history of nutrition and the shift in the nutrition in our foods that happens due to over-use of the land without giving back to it properly as well as man made chemicals. It teaches several types of modalities, physiology and how all systems relate to one another instead of every system being separate. I learned how to feed each system and the body as a whole. I look at the iris of the eye to determine imbalances, I look at nails, urine and saliva, blood, the tongue, the color of the skin and all of it's lines. Everything is a clue. I look at a very thorough list of symptoms and diet and lifestyle of everyone. Once you get all that down on paper, a pattern emerges. Typically two or three systems start to show up over and over again. I tweak the diet and lifestyle issues for the systems that need to be fed. I teach how to eat and feed each of those areas as well. Supplements are used to bring balance to damaged, weakened, stressed and depleted areas. These are foods as well, mostly. For example herbs are plants, leaves, roots, stems...like a medicinal tossed salad. I have been in the field of helping people learn to be healthy since 1991 - but only graduated as a Doctor of Naturopathy in 2002. I am a second generation Classically trained Naturopath. Purpose and Vision Navigation
Purpose and Vision Navigation is a dynamic type of life coaching created by Bill Johnson at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Though not often considered as a healing or energy modality, PVN provides a concise method of pin-pointing what makes us tick. An amazing amount of healing takes place when we discover those things in life that ignite our passion as well as those that drain our energy. As life issues often surface during a one on one energy session, it is very helpful to have tools in place to help process those issues in a constructive, healing way.
We have also found that Purpose and Vision Navigation is very helpful as we go through the transitions in life, such as reaching retirement age or the empty nest syndrom. It can be very healing to retire to something as you retire from something.
On a larger scale, society as a whole is going through a shift in consciousness. People are leaving the corporate world in droves in favor of finding more meaning in life. Many others are stuck in a daily grind, knowing there must be something better out there. However, they stick it out in order to pay their monthly bills and because they have no idea of how to find that something better out there. In truth, it may not be that it's truly something better, it's just that it's something that is more in alignment with who they are. When we live our life in alignment with who we are, healing takes place on a very deep level.

Reiki
Reiki is probably the most well known modality of the healing arts. It is based upon attunements by a qualified teacher and specific symbols that call in the energy, or energies, most suited for the situation at hand. Following the calling in of the energies, specific hand positions are used either on, or very near the recipient's body to channel the healing energy of Reiki. As with all modalities, intention plays a key role as the practitioner assures that the recipient receives only the amount of energy that serves their highest and best good. All taking place as a "higher self" connection is made between the practitioner and recipient that guides the session. It is important to mention here that, again, like all modalities, this energy being discussed does not come from any one of us. This healing energy comes from the Creator of All That Is. This is Source energy...energy of the Divine Feminine/Masculine. This is the energy of God and therefore it is infinite.

Sacred Geometry
Sacred geometry contains within its mysteries the blueprint of creation. All that is known to us exists within the parameters of a ratio (phi), a sequence of numbers (Fibonacci), and 5 geometric shapes (platonic solids) that take form within the Flower of Life and then further in an expanded flower referred to as the Fruit of Life and Metatron's Cube.
The phi ratio (1:1.618) describes the relationship between 2 uneven portions of a given unit of measure. The relationship is such that the smaller portion has the same relationship to the larger portion as the larger portion has to the whole. In other words the larger portion is equal to 1.618 x the smaller portion and the whole unit of measure is equal to 1.618 x the larger portion. The Fibonacci sequence in it's pure form starts with 0 and then 1. Each subsequent number is the sum of the two numbers before it. For example: 0+1=1, 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, 3+5=8, 5+8=13, 8+13=21, 13+21=34.... Or, 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34...into infinity. Eventually, the Fibonacci sequence and phi ratio meet. Depending on where you begin (0 or 1), the 12th (or 13th) number in the sequence when divided by the highest number used to arrive at it, is 1.618. Actually, this is true of any two random numbers you may choose to begin with. Should you care to dig deeper into the Fibonacci sequence, Wikipedia does a great job of describing it in great length.
The Flower of Life is a design, or symbol, that can be found around the world. It has been found seemingly burned into the stone in the Temple of Osiris in Luxor, Egypt. It has also been found in ancient Tibetan and Mayan temples, Celtic ruins and many other ancient structures and texts around the world. The Flower of Life has transcended time and is now found being used in all present day major belief systems. So, what is the Flower of Life? It begins with the Seed of Life. The Seed of Life is comprised of 7 identically sized circles with 6 surrounding 1 that intersect through the centers of the adjacent circles. The Flower of Life unfolds from the Seed of Life by surrounding the original pattern with 12 additional circles. By completing the resulting arcs around the 19 circles of the Flower of Life, the flower unfolds into the fruit. Extract the center circle and the 12 around it that do not intersect, and the Fruit of Life emerges. By drawing straight lines connecting the center of each circle to the center of every other circle, Metatron's cube is created. Within Metatron's cube are the five Platonic solids. The molecular basis of all we know can be traced to these geometric shapes. As this can be a lot to try to visualize, check out this video, I believe it will help (once you get past the cartoon character's voice).

Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man
The image of da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is probably the most well known depiction of how the phi ratio applies to human form. Most folks look at it and think, "Oh that da Vinci, he was a wild and crazy kinda guy...drawing a naked guy with four arms and legs doing jumping jacks! What's up with that?" However, if you look close at the drawing, you'll see lines through the man's body (the more detailed the copy, the more lines you'll see). These lines are showing how Divine proportion can be found in our bodies. Not only is it found in our bodies, it is found in the physical make up of all living things. You will find it in the spacing of the fins of a fish, the segments of an insect's body Even the square and circle the man is standing in demonstrate the phi ratio. In geometry, it is referred to as "circling the square." When this is done, the circumference of the circle is the same as the perimeter of the square. When the square is circled, one side of the square is equal to 1.618 times the radius of the circle...phi ratio.

Shamanism
Shamanism seems very popular among the Spiritual community, yet rarely understood. While not pretending to have a complete understanding of the concept, we will attempt to offer what we do understand. At the same time, we defer to our earlier statement that there are as many perspectives as there are people to have them. As such, we offer the following while respecting the perspective and opinion of others.
While commonly thought to be of Native American origins, Shamanism actually can be traced back to the indigenous peoples on all continents. However, the word itself originated in Northern Asia, bordering Siberia. Shamanism is a belief system and discipline that works with the forces, seen and unseen of nature. A Shaman is one that works with natural elements and nature spirits or any combination of the same. The Shaman does this work, often in an altered state of consciousness as somewhat of an intermediary, on behalf of another for the sake of healing on one level or another...sometimes more than one level.
One common misconception is that studying Shamanism, whether by taking a workshop and receiving a certificate or through self study, makes one a Shaman. To quote Michael Harner of The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, "Important Note: The Certificate of Completion is not intended to convey that a person is a shaman, a shamanic practitioner, or a shamanic healer. The Foundation cannot certify that a person is a shaman — it is successful results in shamanic healing that make a person recognized by his/her clients as a shaman or shamanic healer, and even that status can change at any time according to a practitioner's relationship with the helping spirits."
To learn more about Shamanism, you can hope to be taken under the wing of someone that is a holder of the "ways." You could also seek out one of the various schools. There are many, and all we can say is be careful. We believe Michael Harner's Foundation for Shamanic Studies has a sincere approach and might be a good place to start. However, your best teachers can be found in nature around you. Go there. Quiet your mind. Connect with your surroundings. Make offerings of tobacco, corn meal, bird seeds or in a pinch, a few strands of your hair (birds will use it in their nests). Be humble. Meditate. Listen. Express gratitude with additional offerings. You'd be surprised what nature will tell you when you get out of your own way. Finally, trust what you learn and act upon it.

Soma Pi
Soma Pi is a powerful modality that addresses specific issues in an accelerated manor. The session is done sitting upright. It begins with a prayer being said asking for assistance in dealing with a predetermined issue. The practitioner then makes contact with their finger tips, while channeling Soma Pi energy, on the front and back of the chakras beginning with the sacral and moving sequentially to the third eye. Vibrational Sound Healing
Sound is probably one of the most powerful healing tools available. We are surrounded by healing sounds. Think of how soothing the sounds of nature are. Think of sitting next to a stream, listening to the sound as the water makes its way over the stones or a small drop. Think of the breeze through the trees and the songs of birds as an accompaniments. Think of how you feel when you have such an experience. These are nature's healing sounds. As a healing modality, sound can be used on its own or as an addition to almost any other modality. There are many techniques for incorporating sound. Some that use healing sound are musicians and are able to intuitively compose music that is unique to the client they are working with and for that moment in time based upon their current needs. Others that are not necessarily musicians, might use singing bowls, tuning forks, tone bars, tingshas, rattles and drums or CDs.
As non-musicians we take the approach of the later. We have found that while it must definitely help to be a musician, it is not necessary in order to effectively use vibrational sound healing. A good example is the use of tuning forks which are used intuitively with remarkable results. We especially like using a weighted fork tuned to the frequency of ohm and its harmonic..referred to as Otto. Used together across the meridians of the body, they tend to align one's subtle energy fields with those of the Earth while bringing the energy in harmony with the Earth at the same time. We also have had great success using a set of tuning forks tuned to the Solfeggio frequencies. We could actually go on at great length on our experience with these forks. Suffice it to say, it has been profound. If you would like to know more about the Solfeggio frequencies, Red Ice Creations has a good article about them on their site.
There is a couple from Utah named Kirkland and Laura Ross that compose incredible music using the Solfeggio frequencies. It tends to reach one on a very deep level. Their CDs are a great choice to use during a healing or meditation session. Check out their OMNIPURE web site to learn more.

Drumming connects with us on a very primordial level. The beat of the drum is said to put us in touch with the very heart beat of Mother Earth. Though you may not associate something like a drum circle with vibrational sound healing, it most certainly can be. Drumming seems to rearrange you on a molecular level...releasing your stress and placing you in Divine alignment.
Some drum circles tend to be a casual gathering of friends that simply enjoy the comradery experienced through playing together. While others are more technical drummers and their circles tend to be more like a professional performance. Yet others have deeper spiritual roots. Regardless of the type of drum circle you experience, healing takes place on some level. The most obvious is a sense of release. The circles that have a more spiritual theme to them may provide an even more profound healing experience due to the fact that the drumming takes place within sacred space and intentions are set at the onset.
Drumming (especially with both hands, as with a djembe) has been shown to be very beneficial for Alzheimer's patients as it exercises the brain... actually opening new synopsis as you train your hands to do things that do not come natural. Then again, you don't have to have Alzheimer's for that to be beneficial.
The nice thing about most drum circles is that you do not have to be a musician to attend. Once you get over your self-consciousness, throw your ego out the window and let yourself go, you will find drum circles to be very therapeutic. We highly recommend them! There are drum circles in most communities. Set the intention and you will find them. Here in Piedmont Triad of North Carolina the drumming community is really growing with several choices of circles and workshops each month. If you're ever in Asheville, NC on Friday evening their drum circle in Pritchard Park from 6:00 to 10:00 is not to be missed! They're held every Friday (during the warm months), weather permitting.

11:11 (and other numerical sequences)
It seems many people have been noticing 11:11 more often than could be written off to coincidence. Other sequences are also being noticed such as 12:34, 10:10, 12:12, 1:11, 2:22 and so on. So many are seeing 11:11 that there are quite a few web sites devoted to it. They represent many theories as to the significance of 11:11...everything from angelic guidance to communication from beings of other planets. Then of course there are those that say the recognition of these numerical series is nothing more than coincidence. As with most things, trust your discernment. Take a look at the various theories and see which resonates with you. Something beyond coincidence is surely taking place. What that means to you is for you to decide.
